where one person has been injured in a shooting at the washington navy yard. a navy spokesman confirms the shooting has happened in a building of the washington navy yard in southeast washington. right now police are searching for an active shooter inside a military building. three shots were fired but no information yet on how many people may have been injured. you are looking at a picture right now from the navy yard. you and see there is an active search looking for the gunman. at the love security there and fire apparatus, the building is holding 3,000 employees and we understand all are being told to shelter in police. washington navy yard is the home of the sea systems command, the largest commands in the navy. some of the brass, the admirals, actually, live on this base so it is a very important base in the scheme of things. you sought military personnel armed moving around as well as

local police searching if the gunman. last check we heard three people have been injured but they are trying to tally up the information and get that out. the numbers we have are from the navy release just put out. >> we have word that a "shelter in place" has been ordered for navy yard personnel and, also, we mentioned this only one person has been confirmed shot and that person's condition is not available right now. we are looking to get more information and other reports say that multiple injuries. >> back here, we have developing news, friend police are investigating a serious accident involving a taxicab in the north beach area before 11:00 on broadway street. the man was sheriffing a club with a group friends, the victim was taken to the hospital in

>> breaking news, pictures of the washington, dc, navy yard, where a shooting has taken place and active shooter has been inside the navy sea systems command building. we have confirmation that one person has been shot. that comes from the navy. the washington navy yard is an important installation with sea systems command accounting for a quarter of the navy budget, the top uniformed officer lives here. a lot of activity going on as police and military and security gars try to find the person with the gun and take him or her into custody. we have one confirmed person shot. we will bring you more on the story as it becomes available. >> happening now, more live pictures of the operation upright the capsized "costa concordia" cruise ship is underway right now off the coast of italy. the projects with halted last night when a storm hit the coast

and this is a very, very slow and delicate operation. today's project presents massive challenges. the ship could break apart under its own weight or fall back on its side. 32 people died when the "costa concordia" capsized in january of last year. the manslaughter trial of the ship captain resumed later this month. >> a major highway leak in the pacific northwest is open again this morning, four months after a bridge collapse. drivers faced detours while workers replaced temporary span with a new permanent span over the river in washington. as of 2:00 p.m. year the new span is now open to traffic. the original bridge clapped this may when a truck hit part of the support structure. known died when that section of interstate five collapsed. >> president obama's health care reform law is losing support across the nation. a just released "usa today" and research center poll shows only 42 percent americans now approve

of the law. 53 percent disaproven of the law. the poll comes as the health care exchanges are ready for open enrollment which begins in two weeks on october 1. this morning the white house says president obama has accepted lawrence summers' decision to withdraw his name from consideration as the next federal reserve chairman. now, attention is turning toward the next leading candidate and she has bay area ties. market analysts say the vice chair, janet yellen, is the favorite for the job. a third of the democrats have written a letter to president obama in support of john -- janet yellen. >> a grill and bar is leading the way in digital dining planning to installed computer screens at its table so customers can police orders and pay for their bill using a

temperatures in the mid 50's to near 60 for most of our neighborhood tonight with cloud cover along the coast spilling into the bay. thanks for looking that up, kristen, kansas made the top ten, interesting, with the tattoos and all. that is a first. now, you can see the area of low pressure, the trough of low pressure with a sea breeze keeping us cool, and we have one more low tomorrow that will bring us cooler weather and we will bottom out tomorrow with high pressure building wednesday into thursday and as this comes in, most of the moisture headed to the north but it is close enough right now, we will watch it for friday. the seven-day outlook shows wednesday and thursday, temperatures are above average and friday, saturday, and sunday, back below average.

>> abc7 news starts right now with breaking news the. >> that breaks news is a military base in washington, dc. this is a picture where is search is underway for an active shooter. the washington, dc police and the f.b.i. believe a shooter is hold up inside a military building at the washington, dc, navy yard, in southeast washington. we are getting conflicting reports that several people have been shot. at least the navy initially confirmed one. now they are saying anywhere from three to five victims transported to the hospital. the s.w.a.t. team has just arrived. investigators say three shots were fired inside the command headquarters and up to 3,000 work there and multiple sources tell use that the suspect is described as having several weapons including an assault rifle. a shelter-in-place order has been issued and we will continue to follow the breaking news.

causing bumper-to-bumper traffic. the top speed before you get to highway 84 is 11 miles per hour and this is blocking two lanes involving an overturned vehicle, an s.u.v. power outage and westbound 24 is packed. >> developing news, a man is in custody this morning after leading police on a chase and crashing into a woman in another car sending her to the hospital. it started in san leandro at 11:15 at southland dough street and 100th avenue. police officers pulleddest driver and he sped away and the driver made it to oakland before slamming into another car and a building on 98th avenue. authorities say they do not know

where he took off. he has some history, some criminal history, so we are looking at those factors. >> the man was arrested and the other driver, a woman, was taken to the hospital. >> autopsies are scheduled today for three women killed in a fire in their pittsburg home the authorities already know what stubbing dill about the smoke detectors in the house. amy? >> they had smoke detectors but they did not save the women. the fire killed three women inside this home in pittsburg and it started just after midnight yesterday morning and investigators do believe the women were sleeping when it started and they have in warning because the smoke detectors were not working. they were sitting on the kitchen counter with the batteries taken out. >> were they going to get batteries? something you put off and just that little bit...it is really, really sad.

>> again, we update you on a breaking news story, the shooting in washington, this is at the washington navy yard, where they are looking if a gunman who reportedly shot three to five people. we now have word because of the shooting, the lockdown for security reasons, there is a ground stop at reagan national airport in washington, dc. that means, no departsures are allowed until at least 7:30 a.m. our time in 45 minutes so we will follow this story. >> s.w.a.t. team is on the scene shooting for the shooter who has an assault rifle and one other side arm on him. so, understanding three to five people have been slot and that is the word from the navy right

now. also, washington navy yard is a key base there in washington, dc, one of the oldest the navy has opening in the early 19 the century and hope to the sea systems command one of the largest in the navy accounting for 25 percent of the navy's budget and chief of naval operations lives on site there. >> the metropolitan police are confirming a police officer was wounded, one of the ones shot. they cannot say what department the officer belongs to but, again, at least four under worked with no update on their condition other than they were transported to the hospital. >> you are looking at this helicopter coming in on the scene right now. it looks like a civilian helicopter lowering someone in a basket down on to the scene and they do not know if that is a paramedic or a swat team member but the basket is often used to lit injured people to safety and
